Panel to Panel season greetings card.

Just finished a image for www.paneltopanel.net Exploring words and pictures for their season greetings card. I did not want to do a regular season gretings card, so I decided to do something more spiritual playing with the idea of Mayan end time myth and the concept of being here now.

The illustration was created for my Digital/traditional illustration workshop in my studio in Playas De Tijuana, Mexico.  Students learned how to digitally ink a image in Manga Studio, make hand made textures and traditionally inked shadow. The it is all merged into a single image.

The above image is the inked image in Manga Studio. In Black and white at 600 dpi then exported into photoshop.

The above image is sumi ink on bristol, later scanned and combined with the black and white image in photoshop, where other paper and hand made textures are scanned in and incorporated into the image.

One of my favorite jobs as an illustrator is editorial work, I LOVE, LOVE the challlenge of coming up with ideas adn executing them, there are always gems in the rejected concetps as well as the approved ones. This is for The University of Chicago Magazine wich was art directed by Guido Mendez wich was a huge pleasure to work for, great obsevations to make the illustration stronger and more dynamic.

 

 

Final Art

One of the things from this job that I loved was exploring sci-fi concepts that I love, machinery, cables, tubes and what not. And great concepts came out of the rejected sketches from this job that I loved so much and turned it into a finished illustration.

Tuve una semana de tratar de bajarles de cmabio despues de la marcha de locura para exposicion del CECUT (centro cultural tijuana(que subire unas fotos despues)). Entocnes me puse a agarrar mi lista de ilustraciones pendientes para el portafolio y a comenzar a darle. Una ilustracion que habia descartado hace tiempo. Estaba en blanco y negro y la colorie para descansar. Idea descartada para film freak festival '10

Dibujo original. Original drawing, tinta sobre papel acuarela 20x20 pulgadas, ink on watercolor paper 20x20 inches. Had a week of trying to relax form the insane art march of craziness thatw as the CECUT show and producing the pieces. Illustration that was discarted by me a while ago, it was black and white and I colorized to realax. film freak festival '10
