Just finished a image for www.paneltopanel.net Exploring words and pictures for their season greetings card. I did not want to do a regular season gretings card, so I decided to do something more spiritual playing with the idea of Mayan end time myth and the concept of being here now.
The illustration was created for my Digital/traditional illustration workshop in my studio in Playas De Tijuana, Mexico. Students learned how to digitally ink a image in Manga Studio, make hand made textures and traditionally inked shadow. The it is all merged into a single image.
Sketch, light and shadows pencil on bond paper with scotch tape
Black and white drawing
The above image is the inked image in Manga Studio. In Black and white at 600 dpi then exported into photoshop.
Shadow drawing in sumi ink on paper
The above image is sumi ink on bristol, later scanned and combined with the black and white image in photoshop, where other paper and hand made textures are scanned in and incorporated into the image.
Here is a video of the inking in Manga Studio it is in spanish.

Live Free Podcast
Mikes statement about the podcast.
From a young age people have been comfortable sharing with me their
personal experiences and feelings. Over the past few years I began
listening to podcasts such as This American Life, The Joe Rogan
Experience, and Marc Maron’s WTF. As I began listening to Comedians tell
their life stories. I thought it would be great to get to know visual
artists better in this way. There was a lack of content out there, so I
thought what better time to fill this void? So I did. I’ve recorded 80
episodes mostly focusing on visual artists and what led them into a
creative lifestyle. This art show is to showcase their work and their
stories.
Had some accidents with the art arriving at POrtland, the glass protecting the watercolors got smashed!I problaly did a shitty job at packing them (But I think I did a good job) so I guess USPS sucks and tehy throw stuff around a lot.
Thank to Matt at Hellion Gallery, he is going to get them fixed for the show and the artwork was unharmed.
Here is the process for the series of illustrations I did for Puro Gallo Skateboards from Mexico, there a sort of a evolutive creative narrative that tranforms from each diferent skateboards.
